Intercultural Training
Working across cultures opens up a wealth of new perspectives and exciting possibilities.
Do you interact with colleagues, clients, suppliers or partners from different parts of the world?
Do you know that feeling when you have just had a conversation with someone from a different country and you have that niggling doubt that you did not get your message across as intended? You can’t quite make out the way they reacted, and you are not sure about your next steps …
There might be a whole range of reasons for this, to do with personal aspects, the overall situation or commercial sensitivities. But there might also be cultural aspects which could play a role.
Based on 20 years experience in the industry, my intercultural workshops will allow you to develop the right knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed in an international setting.
Developing cultural intelligence
This general workshop focusses on building self-awareness, exploring the cultural preferences of other parts of the world and developing skills and strategies for working internationally. We want to identify the benefits of cultural diversity and build on these strengths.
Self-awareness means becoming aware of the norms, expectations and values which shape your own behaviour. Realising that nobody is culturally neutral is an important outcome.
This then provides the basis for exploring the cultural preferences of other parts of the world, ideally drawing on personal experiences of the participants, intercultural research and case studies.
Armed with this increased awareness and knowledge we then move on to skills and strategies, such as communication skills, building trust and relationships or working in international teams.
For some customers this general workshop is sufficient, for others it provides the basis for more focussed training.
International teams and virtual teams
What are the challenges and opportunities of international teams? How do we overcome the challenges and make the most of the opportunities?
This highly interactive workshop allows teams to look at the way they work at the moment, explore where they would ideally like to get to in the future and come up with concrete solutions and action steps to get there.
Working virtually has become the new normal. Doing this in an international context adds factors such as language ability, different preferences for frequency of contact or notions of empowerment or leadership to the mix. Developing a team charter can be a helpful tool for such situations.
This workshop can be tailored to the needs of managers leading international teams.
Working in Germany or the UK
For those relocating to another country, even if it’s just across the channel, much can change. We are not just talking about the language and the practicalities of daily life but also attitudes and behaviours in the workplace, from communication style and sense of humour through to attitudes towards process and planning or leadership style.
These very practical workshops focus either on Germany or the UK.
The International Profiler
This development tool looks at the relevant competencies for working internationally. It provides insights into how you are perceived by others and input on those aspects you might want to pay more attention to,
It can be a great preparation for an international assignment or any of the workshops above.
